NuNu Product

So I've been so busy these days once again. Still searching for a house, preparing my son for his first day of preschool, worrying about my dad's cancer, scuba diving and oh yeah, I've been sewing again. I guess I had a sewing block. I started working on a skirt. It's sort of a "steam punk" kinda skirt. Its made from recycled materials for sure. I'm using a maroon stretchy cotton fabric along with a soft sheer beige fabric. I named her "With Icing on Top!" I don't usually do tutorials or I forget to take pictures while I make stuff but I think I've been doing pretty good with catching up on this one. Enjoy the photos and a soon to be reveal!

The Chosen Fabrics
Tiered and Ruffly!

Bow!

Ok, so my inspiration. I was watching a bunch of Hope Sandoval videos one night when I saw her wearing this extra ruffly yet soft but flowy skirt. It suit her perfect and I thought, why not make a skirt she'd love. So this is for you Hope! With Icing On Top!

Things are going swell!

So I did my first Odd Duck a few weeks ago and it went great! I sold a bunch of old stuff that I was happy and a little sad to see go. I also sold some new stuff as well. Thanks to Saskia and Irene for hanging out with me at my booth! It really helps having company while vending.
Not only did I have a successful day at the Duck but I also sold the Phish dress that you see the lovely Alison wearing in the photoshoot. It sold about a week before Odd Duck and it was my first etsy sale ever. I not only want to thank Alison for how rockin' she looked in the dress but also for Ajsha's amazing photography, for all the people who favorited the dress on Etsy and also for Miraculous Creations for adding the dress to an Etsy treasury. Without your help it would have never sold. And now a quote from the buyer:
"Thank you sooooo much. It is very cool and fits perfect! I can't wait to put it on for Phish tour this summer!!!! Have a wonderful day! *Kelly*"

This makes me feel great! Also while standing in line at Indy Craft Bazaar-Spring Fling, I overheard two girls talking behind me. One was telling the other how at Odd Duck there was one vendor that had cute boy short panties made out of t-shirts up on a clothesline. It gave me chills up my spine knowing that they were talking about nevermay.

Now some more stuff that makes me happy! Since John and I decided to put house shopping on hold we decided to do some renovating where we are currently staying. The list is long, but I've been scratching things off on a regular basis. So far we've opened up some boxes of home decor that's been boxed up and stored in our closets for the past year and a half. I almost forgot what was in there. We were able to hang curtains we've missed, take out and place scented candles around the house, and we even were able to fix all the kitchen cabinet doors that kept falling off. Yes! I now have doors on my pantry! It makes the kitchen look so nice and organized now. We've also been able to save a ton of money by buying and selling on good old craigslist. Instead of spending almost 3 grand on a new bedroom set we were able to spend only $1400! And that included a brand new memory foam king mattress. We have so much space on the new bed I can do a cartwheel on it. Although I haven't tried. I also did a ton of landscaping work, both the front yard and back. So my deadline for all this remodling is May 14th. I'm planning on having JD's birthday party at my house this day and I really want the backyard to be ready for the bounce house I'm planning on having that there. We'll see. Deadlines put on a lot of preassure but they also make you get things done.

Back to nevermay! I'm taking a break just until after the end of May. May is a busy month for me and my little family. First, my birthday, which I don't care about anymore. Ha ha! It'll pass. Second, Mother's Day. That I do care about! Then JD's big 4th on the 14th. Then the big 4 year wedding anniversary on the 19th in which we are probably going to try to take a trip or a cruise somewhere. Then, which I'm hoping will never have to happen again, my dad's big surgery on the 24th. The kids and I will be travling to Chicago before that time to be with him. I'll still be sewing and creating during this month when I can get my hands on some thread and yarn and FABRIC! Oh! Keep an eye out for some new nevermay listings on Etsy soon! Ciao!

Swap-O-Rama-Rama & Scott Pilgrim/Smashing Pumpkins Mishaps

Had a super awesome time at 2011 South Florida Swap-O-Rama-Rama!
Met a lot of really great people. Didn't get to meet Wendy but hopefully will sometime. Thanks to "the bubble" IWAN Concept Production Facility for letting us have this even at their rockin' place. Thanks to all the volunteers who really made this thing happen. Thanks to T2T for providing us with all your supplies and support! Ahhhhh! Just a big thank you to all that came and participated too. Thanks to all the fan! Hahaha! I love you!
Check out the video created by Jackie Smith here!

Pillow Case/Dress Shirt Skirt
Some of the things I made were shiny purple sequins pants from a ball gown, a tank top out of a striped polo shirt, and a super cute skirt made out of 2 mens dress shirts and a pillow case!

Awesome group of friends!

And now, for this funny little thing that happened to me while at SORR. While standing around and having a conversation there was a small voice from behind me that asked, "Hey! Is that a Scott Pilgrim tattoo on your back?" I said "No, that is a Smashing Pumpkins tattoo. It's their logo from back in the 90's."

Now, this person probably has no idea who the Smashing Pumpkins are. And yes, now I am realizing my old age because of this. It also took me to the next day to realize why he asked that. Cuz, in the movie Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, Michael Cera wears several different shirts with this old Smashing Pumpkins logo on it. It never even dawned on me that the initials were the same. I like to tell people that these initials to me mean "Sweety Pie" ;)

(and if you really want to feel old then ask Veezie Lu about the story on how she had to explain who Nirvana is to a 19 year old kid. you know who you are Johnny!)

Anyways, stay tuned to another post about where I'll be vending in the South Florida area!

Pictures Pictures Pictures

Had a photo shoot done this past Saturday by an awesome photographer by the name of Ajsha Porter from Clickette Photography. She did an amazing job. Thank you tons!

Now I'm able to showcase most of my handmade clothing on my Etsy shop. You can check out a few of my new listings here:http://www.etsy.com/shop/nevermay.
I don't have a favorite but if I had to choose one I really really liked how my model Alison modeled this Phish dress. She totally rocked it. Along with all my other amazing models, Veezie, Erin & Hannah. Thank you ladies so much!

I hope you like the new listings and please share my new business with your family and friends. Thanks!

i'm not much of a writer

althought i'd like to be. anyways, i decided to start my own thing. its been about a year since i've been thinking about this and i now have the opportunity. i've been off work for 2 years now from being layed off, and it's been great. i was able to spend time with my two children and just be a mother to them. last year i moved to south florida with my husband and the kids not even knowing what would be in store for me. i was lost because i remembered the last time i moved here and i didn't have any friends for those 2 years. i wasn't going to let it happen again so i went on a hunt for some cool hip mama friends. thats when i met Veezie, Heather, and Jackie all at once! it was great! i felt like i finally belonged. its hard to be a first time mom and not have any of your other friends not even be close to having a child so this was super for me!
back when i was 13 i used to sew by hand and create all my outfits for school. come high school i got my own sewing machine. i took a sewing class and really started to progress. i made halloween costumes for myself and my friends. anywhere from  Rainbow Bright to Columbia from rocky horror. it was tons a fun. when i moved to south florida i had mostly winter clothes from the north (Chicago). so cut cut cut, snip snip snip and alacadabra! summer clothes!
veezie and heather noticed my what they called "dirty peaches" skills and i asked me to join them in there business adventure. i had been thinking months before that i wanted to start my own thing but i wasnt sure how to even begin. i was the new girl in town and i didnt know anyone in the biz. so, i went for it! we had great times together collaborating, sewing, creating. we learned a lot from each other. everything was going swell until time crept up on me. i thought everyday about doing my own thing but was having so much fun with the girls.
so yeah, the 2 years were up. meaning, my unemployment. work, yes, a real job is coming around the corner. what i've dreaded for years (only 2). i'm not ready for it. but, john and i are getting close to owning our 3rd home and we cannot lose it again. i will not let that happen. so, i decided to quit the dpc and give myself some time to actually start looking for a real job. hopefully it will just be a part time job or something i can do from home. this is actually a good thing once again for me. i get to start my own business. slowly and in a relaxing calm matter i will become something great.

so this is basically my life so far for the past 2 years, with a little bit of old school in there.
i really hope you enjoy what i put out as far as clothing, accessories, hand bags, jewelry, you name it. i've got a lot of creative ideas in my head and i'm so ready to push them out of my machine!
